i can’t tell you much about this pdx band, but here’s what’s important:

wow, ten years. a thousand young was an all star metallic hardcore band of anchorage bred portland transplants back in the days before mustaches and fucking fixies. portland was cheap rent and cheap beer and cheap food and no winter and good shows every night, or so it seemed to those of us still scraping together enough money to pay the security guard for a rec center show back in alaska. you can still hear the band finding their legs a bit, and i always wished this band had put out another ep or a proper full length. alas, here we have the sum total of their recorded output. although you can hear the era’s influences, the execution and snarl make this a classic in my book.

supposedly 56 artists will contribute to this event, working in a wide variety of media. i’ll be playing drums along with galen nolan (bass) in a piece written by stephan koweluk (guitar). riordan has mastered the alchemy of melding wreckless abandon with creative drive, and the eclectic works crafted by the ad hoc army of artists his work has inspired will be a testament to his success.
