A little late, but Gizmodo has apparently called for a boycott of the RIAA for all of March 2007 to protest their heavy handed anti-piracy scare tactics. This means that you should only buy music from bands on indie labels. Going to shows and buying merch directly from any band is still ok, but no iTunes. If you need a better online mp3 store, go with eMusic. They’re cheap, specialize in small labels, and have no DRM.
