Kickin’ Rocks have recently finished up their new disc, Drink to Death. Fisticuffs philosopher Dave Armstrong (ex-Martyrs’ Union) handles guitar/vocal/songwriting duties, while Jason Brisson (ex-Uncle Jessie, T.S. Scream) and Aaron Selbig (Insurgent 49) juggle drums, bass, smoking, and drinking.
The no-nonsense songs ring old school, and the band proves it’s not afraid of the occasional drunken, Oi-influenced sing along. Armstrong’s lyrics are sometimes political and sometimes personal but most often somewhere between, hiding under metaphors and wordplay. In fact, bridging disparate extremes seems to be a trademark of the band; they’re rowdy but intelligent, fun loving but focused, and concerned but optimistic.
Pick up a copy of the cd and see Kickin’ Rocks at this month’s Insurgent 49 Third Friday show with Fats Tuna Melt on 5/18, and on 5/19 at the Crossroads (also with Fats).

the hug-a-mutha and los gran torinos records are 99% mixed. hug-a-mutha should have a cd out by early spring. both bands also have tracks on a planned parenthood local music compilation, organized by lester of the moon knights.
hug-a-mutha will become a four headed rock attack hydra in the next few months, with charlie reclaiming his old duties on thunder and shane moving to lightning. adam and stephan will remain on eruption and earthquake, respectively.
in other news, kickin’ rocks will be in the studio (where i lay my crates is studio) in early march. more news on the stubby’s crack co. magnum opus urban jungle book as it develops.
